Healthy Sweet Potato Brownies
Last weekend, I hosted a gathering for my women’s group—a lovely community of health-conscious, nutrition-loving ladies who meet regularly to share recipes, tips, and stories. I wanted to bring something to the table (literally) that was indulgent enough to feel like a treat, yet still aligned with our commitment to wholesome, nourishing food. After some brainstorming, I had the idea to create sweet potato brownies using simple, nutrient-dense ingredients I already had on hand.
Full disclosure: I turned to ChatGPT for inspiration, and let me tell you, the result was a showstopper! These brownies were rich, chocolatey, and fudgy, with just the right amount of sweetness from maple syrup and the earthy goodness of sweet potatoes. I couldn’t believe how easy they were to make—and neither could anyone else.
One by one, the ladies asked for the recipe, and I knew I couldn’t keep it to myself. This recipe isn’t just a healthier take on a classic treat; it’s proof that nourishing your body can also feel like indulging your soul. I hope you enjoy making these as much as I did.
Let me know if they’re a hit with your crew too!
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 2 medium sweet potatoes, cooked and peeled)
⅓ cup almond milk (unsweetened)
⅓ cup maple syrup
½ cup cocoa powder (unsweetened)
½ cup almond flour or oat flour
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
Optional: ½ cup dark chocolate chips or chopped nuts for mix-ins
Instructions:
Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
Prepare the sweet potatoes: Cook your sweet potatoes until soft (you can steam, boil, or bake them), then mash them well until smooth.
Combine wet ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the mashed sweet potatoes, almond milk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Add dry ingredients: Sift in the cocoa powder, almond flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well until a thick, smooth batter forms. If adding chocolate chips or nuts, fold them in now.
Bake the brownies: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean.
Cool and serve: Let the brownies cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes before slicing. They’ll firm up as they cool. For best results, refrigerate for an hour before serving to achieve a fudgier texture.
Enjoy these naturally sweetened, nutrient-packed brownies as a healthier dessert option!
